SASSA Online Application for Social Grants

Here you will learn how to apply for social grants such as care dependency grants, child support grants, disability grants, foster child grants, grant-in-aid grants, social relief of distress grants, war veterans grants, and special R350 grants through SASSA. Your eligibility will determine which grants you are eligible to request.

SASSA Online Application: Apply for Social Grants

A SASSA application can be submitted online to apply for social grants. There are two sections to the process, beginning with registration and continuing with application submission, where you can select the type of grant you need and complete the online application form.

Registration of SASSA Account Online

  1. You can access SASSA services through the SASSA website.
  2. Access the SASSA services by clicking the “Register A New Account” button.
  3. Approve South Africa’s Registration Consent by checking “I Agree” and clicking “Apply”.
  4. You will need to fill out the “Client Registration” e-form with the required information.
    • The citizenship status of the individual (South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee)
    • Login Username (Your ID number)
    • Type of ID document (ID document/temporary ID)
    • Make sure your ID number is correct
    • Please select a title for the user (Mr/Mrs/Miss).
    • Please provide your last name
    • Your full name must be provided
    • Please provide a valid email address
    • Make sure your password meets certain criteria and is strong.
    • Make sure the password you chose is correct
    • Please provide your South African cellphone number (10 digits).
  5. You can now register by clicking “Register me” after you have entered all the information.

It has been created for you, and a confirmation message will shortly arrive in your inbox with either an OTP or a link that will allow you to complete your registration by entering your cell phone number. Then you can go ahead and apply for social grants once your account has been created.

Applying for SASSA Social Grants

  1. Use your username and password to log into your SASSA account.
  2. Select the type of grant you would like to apply for from the “Social Grant Options”.
  3. Provide all the necessary information on the grant application form.
  4. Certified by a commissioner of oaths, the SASSA-generated affidavit must be printed and certified.
  5. Affidavit and Bank Payment Form must be signed and submitted together.
  6. In PDF format, upload the required certified supporting documents:
  7. If you are applying for a Child Support Grant:
    • The applicant’s ID document
    • The spouse’s ID document (if applicable)
    • Document proving marital status: marriage certificate
    • Bank letter with applicant’s details: proof of banking details
    • Income proof (if applicable)
    • The affidavit was generated by SASSA
  8. In order to apply for a Foster Child Grant:
    • The applicant’s ID document
    • Document proving the spouse’s identity (if applicable)
    • Certificate of marriage (if applicable)
    • Information about the applicant’s bank account: letter from the bank
    • Income proof (if applicable)
    • Affidavit generated by SASSA
  9. Applicants for the Older Persons Grant:
    • An ID copy of the applicant
    • (If applicable, copy of spouse’s ID)
    • Marriage certificate (if applicable): proof of marital status
    • Proof of banking information: letter from the applicant’s bank
    • Income proof (if applicable)
    • The SASSA generated the affidavit
  10. Your social grant application will be completed after you provide the required supporting documentation.
  11. Submit the SASSA grant application by clicking the “Submit” button.
  12. With SASSA’s online status check option, you can now check the status of your grant application.

Important Notices:

  • The SASSA official who assisted you with your application will be listed on your dated stamped receipt after the application form is completed in full.
  • The application process is free, so you should keep your receipt as proof of application.
  • The relevant grant page will provide you with the exact documents you need to complete your grant application.

How Long Does It Take to Process Your SASSA Online Application Grant?

Applicants should expect to wait at least three months for SASSA to process their online grant applications. Payment will start to arrive as soon as your application is approved. Check the SASSA Payment Dates to determine your exact payday.

How Will You Be Notified of a Successful Grant Application?

You will receive a written communication from SASSA if your grant application is not approved. When you receive notification that your application was unsuccessful, you have 90 days to appeal the decision. The Department of Social Development’s national office is where you should submit your appeal to the Minister of Social Development.
